- W2107622016 abstract "Computerized methods for interpretation of mass spectra are increasing and many papers have now been published. Three different approaches can be used to identify an unknown compound. These methods are reviewed and discussed. First, the heuristic technique which tries to simulate the reasoning of the chemist and deduce the formulae. The only information needed are the mass spectra, the empirical formulae and the n.m.r. spectra. Some promising results have been obtained but the method has important restrictions. Another approach represents the mass spectra as points in a hyperspace. By developing decision surfaces it is possible to classify an unknown compound. This is called pattern recognition and the different empirical methods for recognizing patterns in mass spectral data are explained and reported. The last and simplest technique is to match an unknown spectrum against a library of standard references. When the unknown spectrum is in the library, this approach gives the best results.Les methodes d'interpretation automatique de specres de masse se developpent e plus en plus et sont l'objet de nombreux articles. Les recherches se poursuivent dans trois directions principales qui seront successivement exposees: l'intelligence artificielle, les methodes statistiques et la comparaisondirecte du spectre inconnu avec und bibliotheque de reference. Tout d'a bord, les techniques heuristiques qui simulent le raisonnement du chimiste et donnent la formule developpee du compose inconnu. Des resultats prometteurs sont obenus, mais les limites d'applications sont importantes. Dans les methodes statistiques, la representation des donnees spectrales sous forms de vecteurs dans l'espace pement d'operer certaines classifications et d'aboutir pafois a la formule developpee. Cette demarche utilisee par la technique dite [reconnaissance des formes] (Patern Recongnition) permet de retrouver des caracteristiques structurales dans un vaste ensemble de donnees. La comparaison directe des spectres inconnus avec ceux d'une biblliotheque donne d'excellents resultats quand le spectre de reference se trouve dans la lilbrairie. Dans le cas contraire, il est possilble de retrouver les composes voisins et d'avoir des informations sur la structure du produit inconnu." @default.
