- W2108530918 abstract "Abstract The defence reaction of young tomato fruits to infection by B. cinerea appeared to consist of necrosis and collapse of epidermal cells followed by a high cambial activity of the underlying parenchymatous cells. Shortly after infection, deposits of callose and suberin were detected along the walls of cells bordering the necrotic area, possibly restricting fungal invasion. Lignification of cell walls could not be demonstrated. The majority of ghost spots tested failed to yield B. cinerea. The germ tubes may actually die after penetration, due to desiccation. @default.
