- W2108669909 abstract "Trivial nonpara-/nontransvalvular leakage (non-P/non-T) is usually seen immediately after the implantation of a stented porcine valve in the mitral portion. Mild central transvalvular leakage is also sometimes seen after the implantation of stented bovine pericardial valves.1Cheung A.T. Prosthetic valves.in: Perrino Jr, A.C. Reeves S.T. A Practical Approach to Transesophageal Echocardiography. Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, Philadelphia, PA2003: 200-217Google Scholar We observed mild non-P/non-T leakage immediately after the implantation of a Mosaic mitral bioprosthesis (Medtronic, Minneapolis, MN). The patient was a female in her seventies. She had suffered from mitral regurgitation and atrial fibrillation, and she underwent mitral valve replacement using a Mosaic and Maze's operation. Mild non-P/non-T leakage was seen immediately after cardiac beating resumed (Fig 1). The regurgitation decreased immediately after administration of protamine, and the degree of regurgitation became trivial at the end of surgery. Transthoracic echocardiography 3 weeks after surgery showed no regurgitation. Because the porcine aortic xenograft is attached to a sewing ring, regurgitation between the porcine aortic annulus and sewing ring can occur. The regurgitation is not classified as paravalvular leakage because the regurgitation originates inside the sewing ring. However, the regurgitation is also not classified as transvalvular leakage because the regurgitation originates outside the bioprosthetic annulus. It is thought that mild non-T/non-P regurgitation immediately after implantation of a stented porcine valve may be acceptable as is trivial non-T/non-P regurgitation after implantation of a stented porcine valve or mild central transvalvular leakage after implantation of a stented bovine pericardial valve." @default.
