Both methods of calculation are shown to lead to essentially equivalent numerical results for allowed transitions (ΔJPiPf = 0+, 1+) and for forbidden transitions of the types, ΔJPiPf = 1−1 and possibly 2+, 3−…. For forbidden transitions of the types, ΔJPiPf = 0−0, 2−, 3+,…, the two methods may lead to inequivalent results.
