- W2109635 abstract "There is much interest in the involvement of the auxin, indole-3-acetic acid (IAA), in various aspects of higher plant growth and development (see Letham et al. 1978). Information on IAA pool sizes and how they are controlled by biosynthetic and catabolic processes is an integral part of an understanding of the mechanisms by which IAA influences growth. In recent years, investigations of endogenous IAA levels have made use of procedures such as combined gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) in the single and multiple ion monitoring modes (Rivier and Pilet 1974), high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with fluorescence detection (Crozier et al. 1980) and immunoassays (Weiler 1982), in order to obtain reliable quantitative data. While these techniques have been utilized in elegant studies on the production and hydrolysis of IAA conjugates in Zea mays kernels (see Bandurski 1984, Cohen and Bialek 1984) they have not as yet found widespread application in investigations on IAA biosynthesis and catabolism. As a consequence, progress in this aspect of auxin biochemistry compares most unfavourably with equivalent research on abscisic acid (see Neill et al. 1984), cytokinins (see McGaw et al. 1984), and gibberellins (see >Crozier 1983a,b)." @default.
