- W2111105422 abstract "The KOHN and ROSTOKER Green's-function method is generalized to include the presence of surface states in a semi-infinite three dimensional periodic structure. Only the case in which the unit cell contains one atom is considered. It is shown that two dimensional energy bands of surface states are superimposed on the ordinary three dimensional band structure of the bulk material. Both these systems of energy bands can overlap. No actual numerical calculations are reported in this paper, but the procedure is evidently capable of giving practical results for some given materials, without undue labour. Die Methode der Greenschen Funktion von KOHN und ROSTOKER ist verallgemeinert worden, um die Oberflächenzustände in einer halbunendlichen, dreidimensionalen periodischen Struktur mit einzuschließen. Hierbei wird der Fall nur eines Atoms in der Einheitszelle betrachtet. Es wird gezeigt, daß zweidimensionale Energiebänder von Oberflächenzuständen erhalten werden, die der üblichen dreidimensionalen Bandstruktur des Volumens überlagert sind. Beide Energiebandsysteme können einander überlappen. Es werden in dieser Veröffentlichung keine numerischen Rechnungen angegeben, das Verfahren ist jedoch in der Lage, ohne große Mühe praktische Ergebnisse für einige Stoffe zu liefern." @default.
