• W2113174583 abstract "With a shrinking supply of workers entering the construction industry, it is vital to maintain the current workforce. As a growing source of labor, more information is needed about Spanish-speaking construction workers, including their perceptions of discrimination. The purpose of this study is to identify Spanish-speaking workers’ perceptions of discrimination in the construction industry including: (a) how the language barrier has affected communication at work, (b) opportunities and obstacles for advancement, (c) compensation, and (d) overall treatment at work. Data for this mixed-method study was collected through the use of a customized survey instrument and group discussions with participants using a foreign-born interpreter. Survey data collection for Spanish-speaking individuals, however, is often difficult to gather due to cultural differences that often exist between the researcher and the participants.
