• W2113681152 abstract "Summary Changes in the immune status were followed in 8 crossbred gilts from two weeks before until three weeks after farrowing. Simultaneously, the plasma levels of cortisol and oestrone sulphate were measured. The immune status was monitored by total white blood cell (WBC) and lymphocyte counts, and estimation of the serum level of gammaglobulin, the number of active monocytes and the cellular response to mitogen stimulation. The total number of WBC increased from the day before to five days after parturition (p < 0.05). A significant decrease in the number of lymphocytes and active monocytes was observed during the last 4–5 days preceding parturition. The cellular response to the mitogen Con A decreased significantly (p < 0.05) around parturition. The total number of WBC, the number of active monocytes and the lymphocyte proliferation, were negatively correlated to the plasma levels of cortisol or oestrone sulphate. The decrease in the number of lymphocytes and active monocytes before parturition indicates a suppression of the immune defence system during the very late pregnancy in the gilt. Zusammenfassung Veränderungen in der Anzahl und in der funktionellen Aktivität von mononukleären Blutzellen während der peripartalen Periode bei der Jungsau änderungen im Immunstatus bei 8 Jungsauen wurden von zwei Wochen vor bis drei Wochen nach dem Abferkeln verfolgt. Gleichzeitig wurden die Hydrocortison‐ und östronsulphatspiegel im Plasma gemessen. Der Immunstatus wurde mittels Gesamtleukozyten‐ und Lymphozytenzahl sowie der Bestimmung des ‘Gammaglobulinspiegels im Serum, der Anzahl von aktiven Monozyten und der zellulären Antwort auf mitogene Stimulierung untersucht. Die Gesamtleukozytenzahl nahm ab dem ersten Tag vor bis fünf Tage nach dem Abferkeln zu (p < 0.05). Ein signifikanter Rückgang der Anzahl von Lymphozyten und aktiven Monozyten wurde in den letzten 4–5 Tagen vor dem Partus beobachtet. Die zelluläre Antwort auf das Mitogen Con A ließ beim Partus bedeutend nach. Die Gesamtzahl der Leukozyten, die Anzahl von aktiven Monozyten und die Vermehrung von Lymphozyten korrelierten negativ mit den Hydrocortison‐ bzw. östronsulphatspiegeln im Plasma. Die Abnahme der Anzahl von Lymphozyten und aktiven Monozyten vor dem Partus deutet auf eine Unterdrückung des Immunsystems in der späten Trächtigkeit bei der Jungsau hin." @default.
