- W2114424406 abstract "Strongly undulatory silver veins of the Castrovirreyna district, centralPeru, formed in a dilatant, anastamosing, low-displacement, left-lateral faultsystem during late-Miocene, east-west–directed compression. The steeplydipping veins have multiple orders of undulations, as seen in map view, andunderground mines expose strong dip reversals. Kinematic indicators from theeast-northeast– to west-northwest–striking veins record mainly left-lateralslip and lesser oblique-reverse slip. These striation data, considered alongwith vein intersection angles and map patterns, indicate that the veins did notform as a simple conjugate fracture set. The preferred interpretation is thatthe curved fracture growth and complex slip distributions developed because oflocal stress-field modifications by the propagating faults and dilating veinsegments during regional east-west–directed compression. Variably orientedfault striations, compound displacement profiles, and multiple scales of veincurvature are all characteristics of stress interaction between subparallelveins. Veins possessing these features may be expected to host oreshoots with acomplex geometry that depends not only on local accommodation space produced atdilant jogs, but also on the proximity to other veins and changing slipdirections." @default.
