It proposes that the exploiting class in contemporary peasant societies is not necessarily the one that controls the land, but is usually the one that controls the transfer of goods between the local peasant economy and the industrialized national economy.Exploitation is by economic middlemen. The means by which they extract wealth from the economic system is analyzed in this article in simple mathematical terms. The process has a number of variations, two of which are discussed.
