- W2116476570 abstract "Systolic blood pressure measurements were carried out with the Loaned Self Blood Pressure Model (LSBP) to determine its usefulness in identifying subjects with greater arterial damage. Office systolic blood pressure (OSBP) and LSBP readings were taken. Arterial rigidity was measured with the carotid femoral pulse wave velocity (PWV), using automatic equipment. Patients suspended antihypertensive treatment two weeks before the study. LSBP consists of short-term (3-day) loans of automatic sphygmomanometers (Omron 712C), doing 27 readings. The OSBP was measured with a mercury sphygmomanometer, doing two readings during two visits. Four groups are classified: hyper/hyper (OSBP≥140 and LSBP≥135 mmHg); hyper/normal (OSBP ≥140 and LSBP <135 mmHg); normal/normal (OSBP<140 and LSBP<135 mmHg); and normal/hyper (OSBP<140 and LSBP≥135 mmHg). The study involved 415 subjects, 78% female, and the findings are presented in the table. BP = blood pressure, mmHg. PWV = pulse wave velocity. Group 3 was different from groups 1, 2 and 4 (P<0.01). The last groups had no statistical difference between them. Group 1 was different from groups 2, 3 and 4 (P<0.01). Group 2 was different from 1, 3 and 4 (P<0.01), 3 and 4 without any statistical difference between them. All the groups presented statistical differences between each another (P<0.01). Group 1 was not equal to groups 2 and 3 (P<0.01), group 2 was not equal to group 3 (P<0.01) nor to group 1 (P<0.01). There was no difference between group 2 and 4. Group 3 was different from groups 1 and 2 (P<0.01). Group 4 had no difference with the other groups. The differences between the groups persisted after adjusting the PWV, serum creatinine levels, tobacco use, presence of diabetes mellitus and use of antihypertensive treatment. Subjects with hypertension at home and in the office presented greater arterial damage, reflected in PWV increase." @default.
