- W2116717045 abstract "The Mixed Initiative Control of Automa -teams (MICA) Program in the Information Exploitation Office (IXO) of the Defense Advance d Research Projects Agency (DARPA) was chartered to develop and demonstrate technologies for the semi -autonomous control of cooperative teams of unmanned air vehicles. This paper describes and summarizes the achievements and progress of the first two years of the program. In the operational context of precision strike in a dense air defense environment, the MICA program was able to demonstrate successful approaches to dynamic resource allocation for team objectives; flexible task assignments for a fluid tar get set; and coordinated, multi -vehicle path planning for tens of unmanned air vehicles in a constantly changing threat environment. The MICA Program also made advances in the concept of mixed initiative human interaction with a UAV’s command and control s ystem. The mixed initiative approach enables a variable interaction that ranges from full autonomy based on specified preferences, priorities, and rules of engagement to waypoint and action control of individual vehicles. The MICA Program was also quite su ccessful, from a DARPA perspective, in being able to transition its concepts and technical approaches to a variety of Department of Defense programs." @default.
