- W2116733305 abstract "Obesity is a major public health problem in maternity care. The prevalence is increasing, particularly in economically developed countries, and few interventions are evidence based. Obesity is associated with an increased risk of multiple maternal and perinatal complications. These complications seem to be partly mediated by increased birth weight and increased rates of co-morbidities such as gestational diabetes, and partly mediated by other poorly defined mechanisms. The objective of this review article was to describe the implications of obesity for labour and delivery, and discuss interventions aimed at preventing peripartum complications in this group of women." @default.
