- W2116736361 abstract "The surface tensions of various liquids have been measured continuously by controlling their flow so that a slug of air is held stationary in a vertical tube. The dependence between the velocity (expressed as Froude number) and surface tension (expressed as Eotvos number) has been correlated for many low viscosity liquids. An extension of the correlation to viscous liquids has also been proposed and the effect of temperature has been studied.Due to dynamic surface tension effects, the data for surfactant solutions measured by this continuous method are higher than values found by static (equilibrium) techniques, so the method is not recommended for surfactant solutions.A slight modification of the apparatus and procedure permits the continuous measurement of interfacial tensions of liquid-liquid systems, data for which are also presented.On a mesure d'une maniere continue les tensions superficielles de divers liquides, en contro'lant leur ecoulement de telle sorte qu'une bulle d'air soit retenue stationnaire dans un tube vertical. On a etabli, pour de nombreux liquides de faibles viscosites, des correlations entre la vitesse (exprimee en nombre de Froude) et la tension superficielle (exprimee en nombre d'Eotvos). On a aussi propose l'extension de ces correlations a des liquides visqueux et on a etudie l'effet de la temperature.Par suite des effets des tensions superficielles dynamiques, les mesures faites par cette methode continue sur des solutions d'agents tensio-actifs se sont averees plus elevees que celles obtenues par des techniques statiques; aussi, la methode continue n'est-elle pas recommandee pour des solutions d'agents tensio-actifs.Une legere modification apportee a l'appareil et a la procedure experimental permet de mesurer de maniere continue les tensions interfaciales des systemes liquide-liquide pour lesquelles on presente egalement des donnees." @default.
