- W2118008829 abstract "We re-examine here the shell-model theory of 205Pb because of some unexplained discrepancies noted in previous calculations. We study also the structure of its states below about 2.5 MeV excitation. We find that a potential with a weak spin dependence and weak non-localities can describe well most of the states of 206Pb and 205Pb. This necessitates a large amount of configuration mixing. For states above roughly 2.5 MeV, excitations involving the N = 6 oscillator shell might be expected to play a role which may not be fully accountable with the model used here. We find that only the lowest 12−, 32−,52− and, exceptionally, one of the higher 12− excited states, has any appreciable seniority one content, when either local or non-local potentials are used. In general, large admixtures of states of seniority one and three are produced. The correlations in the ground state and the first excited state (12−) can be accounted for by assuming that interaction takes place mostly in two-hole states with J = 0+ and J = 2+, in spite of the fact that J = 0+ two-hole matrix elements turn out to be appreciably larger than others. For all the other calculated eigenstates of 205Pb, the interaction in J = 0+ and/or J = 2+ two-hole states solely cannot exhaust the correlations built in those eigenstates." @default.
