- W2119640401 abstract "MODERN THORACIC SURGERY is used to treat a wide variety of disease states ranging from infectious diseases to malignancies. Thoracotomy and video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) can be associated with significant pain, which may negatively impact patient recovery, rehabilitation, and overall satisfaction with medical care as well as potentially lead to chronic postsurgical pain syndromes, underscoring the importance of optimizing pain control. Strategies for acute postoperative pain control and for the treatment of chronic postsurgical pain after thoracic surgery will be discussed.
