- W2120717595 abstract "During the last decade, there has been a steady increase in the number of studies which have found a strong relationship between, on the one hand, different measures of social networks and social support and, on the other hand, various measures of mortality, health and disease. Theories that have been proposed to explain these correlations include theories about stress and about how the individual copes with the stressful environment by means of various coping strategies. The paper gives a short review of this field and discusses some difficulties in the interpretation of these results. «Social networks» is a reflection of the structure of the society as well as of the local environment and the individual's personality. The personality is in turn a product of the interaction among the biological and the environmental factors. In order to tackle satisfactorily the fundamental issues in this field, it is necessary to adopt a biopsychosocial strategy." @default.
