The BC2F4:6 population T84 was derived from a cross between the German spring wheat cultivar „Triso‟ and the synthetic hexaploid wheat accession Syn084. The results of the AB-QTL analysis of drought tolerance for eight traits are presented and, then compared with the AB-QTL analysis of drought tolerance in the D84 population (Ibrahim et al. 2010). Both AB populations share the synthetic hexaploid wheat donor accession Syn084 and were tested under identical well-watered and drought-stress treatments in the greenhouse. Two hundred and twenty-three BC2F4:6 lines were genotyped with 102 SSR markers. A total of 33 QTLs were identified. At 14 (42%) QTLs the exotic alleles had favorable effects improving performance of traits under both treatments, ranging from 1.1% to 15.4% under well-watered, and from 0.9% to 10.5% under drought-stress treatments. A comparison of the AB-QTL analysis between T84 and D84 using 94 common SSR markers showed that 15% of QTLs were simultaneously detected in both AB populations. This finding indicates that only a small-portion of the QTLs (15%) detected in each population was common across populations and can be used as effective QTLs. As bread wheat is a polyploid species with a large genome, high-density DNA markers and several mapping populations are required to identify marker-trait associations due to the complexity associated with multiple genomes." @default.
