- W2124607645 abstract "The mini-open rotator-cuff repair technique developed as a less invasive method to treat rotator-cuff tear pathology. The technique became possible with the advancement in shoulder arthroscopy and the ability to perform an arthroscopic acromioplasty. The arthroscopically assisted mini-open rotator-cuff repair allows assessment and treatment of glenohumeral pathology. It allows for assessment of rotator-cuff-tendon tear size, location, mobility, and quality. A lateral split in the deltoid muscle allows repair of the tear without detachment of the anterior deltoid. The technique has been well accepted, with less peri-operative morbidity compared to open repairs. It is most appropriate for small- and medium-sized supraspinatus tears. The mini-open approach can be converted to a formal open approach if the tear is found to require greater exposure for repair. When tendon quality or mobility issues prevent a satisfactory repair, the mini-open approach can be converted to from an all-arthroscopic approach. The indications, contraindications, operative technique, aftercare, complications, and results to be expected are discussed." @default.
