- W2131756779 abstract "Publisher Summary This chapter summarizes the results concerning heterolytic cleavage of dihydrogen. In these results, heterolytic cleavage of dihydrogen is shown to be catalyzed by using ruthenium-dihydrogen complexes and sulfido-bridged dinuclear molybdenum complexes to protonate coordinated dinitrogen and cleave the Si–O bond in silyl enol ethers. Nitrogen is one of the essential elements for life, and for various chemicals and materials. The Haber–Bosch process has long been used industrially to produce ammonia from dinitrogen and dihydrogen gases. Although dinitrogen is readily available from the atmosphere, the synthesis of ammonia by this process requires quite drastic conditions because of the extreme chemical inertness of dinitrogen. The chapter also defines that ammonia is formed by protonation of the coordinated dinitrogen on tungsten with acidic ruthenium-dihydrogen complexes under mild reaction conditions. In this bimetallic system, the heterolytic cleavage of dihydrogen occurs at the ruthenium center, where a proton is used for the protonation of the coordinated dinitrogen and a hydride ion remains at the ruthenium atom." @default.
