- W2133767524 abstract "The hypothesis of this study was that infantile colic would reduce the incidence of transitional objects. Mothering was considered as an interaction variable where the needs of the child varied and the possibility for the mother (or other caretaker) to satisfy them (be “good enough”) varied accordingly. Infantile colic was regarded as an excessive internal discomfort that the mother could not mitigate or even handle to a sufficient degree. The sample was recruited from four child welfare centers in Stockholm. As a control group, all immediate next cases in sequence of the same sex and age in the center's register without the diagnosis were chosen. The results were in agreement with the hypothesis. They were interpreted to indicate that children with colic do not get enough positive learning experiences from physical contact situations that are thought to be of importance for the development of transitional objects. Problems concerning the definition of transitional objects in the present study are discussed." @default.
