Some special fine structural aspects on the mandibles could be revealed like the toothed part and the fibrillar texture of the cutting edge of the larval mandible. In the case of the imago the mandibles possess a ridge‐like cutting edge as well as a groove on the inner side provided with sense organs. The wood surface after nibbling by the larvae evinces a characteristic wavelike basic pattern constituted by the decayed tracheids; this pattern is overlapped by the nibbling furrows. Zusammenfassung Die larvalen und imaginalen Mandibeln des Hausbockkäfers ( Hylotrupes bajulus ) wurden im Rasterelektronenmikroskop untersucht. Es konnten feinstrukturelle Besonderheiten sichtbar gemacht werden, wie der Zähnchenbesatz und die fibrilläre Strukturierung am Schneideteil der Larvenmandibeln. An der Käfermandibel wurde eine leistenförmige Schneidekante sowie eine Rille mit Sinnesborsten festgestellt. Die Holzoberfläche nach Larvenfraß stellt im REM ein von den benagten Tracheiden gebildetes Grundmuster dar, welches von den Fraßfurchen überlagert ist." @default.
