- W2137329795 abstract "The Boston naming test-short version (BNT-S) is mostly used neuropsychological test to measure confrontational naming ability and semantic memory of dementia patients. We developed a new composite score of BNT-S (BNT-S-C) that is working much better than the first response score of BNT-S (BNT-1 st) in screening Alzheimer's disease (AD). We administered the BNT-S and the Mini Mental Status Examination (MMSE) to 281 mild AD patients and their age-, gender- and education-matched cognitively normal elderly controls (NC). We developed a composite score for screening AD comprised of demographic characteristics, GDS-K scores (Geriatric depression scale-Korean version) and weighted sub-index scores of BNT-S; spontaneous response (1 st), semantic cued response(2 nd ) and phonemic cued response(3 rd ) classified according to high, middle or low frequency). Weighting coefficients were estimated by stepwise and forward selection method of logistic regression analysis. We compared the diagnostic accuracies among the BNT-S-C, BNT-1 st and MMSE using receiver operator curve analysis. The weighted composite index was calculated using the logit of test scores weighted by their coefficients from logistic regression models:logit (case) = 8.392-.048 × age-.218 × gender+.158 × education+.069 × GDS-K-.981 × high frequency 1 st score-1.099 × high frequency 2 nd score-.668 × middle frequency 1 st score-.410 × middle frequency 2 nd score-.289 × low frequency 3 rd score. The area under the ROC (AUC) of the BNT-S-C for diagnosing AD was .810 (SE = .018, 95% CI= .774-.846), which was smaller than that of the MMSE (AUC = .940, SE = .010, 95% CI = .921-.960) but larger than that of the BNT-1 st (AUC = .775, SE = .020, 95% CI = .735-.814). The BNT-S can be a good tool in screening AD if we use its weighted composite score instead of 1 st response." @default.
