- W2138689003 abstract "We have previously reported that amyloid- beta (A ß) is deposited in the nasal cavity of both Alzheimer's disease (AD) patients and a transgenic mouse model of AD. However, it can be difficult to measure A ß levels in the human nasal cavity using the available in vitro diagnostic methods. In this study, we used our original method to measure Aß levels in nasal smears of AD patients and controls individuals. At this time the A ß 42 contents in nasal smear could be measured by this method. The mean of Aß 42 contents from AD patients and control cases were 0.44fmol and 0.29fmol, respectively. The A ß 42 levels in the nasal smear of AD patients were significantly higher than that of control except for geriatrics (Wilcoxon signed-rank test; p = 0.007)." @default.
