- W2140483019 abstract "The far-i.r. spectra of poly(styrene acrylic acid) ionomer films containing alkali metal ions in the 80–450 cm−1 region have been studied. For each polymeric salt, an intense and broad absorption band, whose frequency is cation mass dependent has been observed and assigned to cation-motion in the electrostatic field of the anionic carboxylate groups. The force field elements for cations vibrating at carboxylate-containing sites have been obtained for different models of the cation-motion vibration. The results indicate that the postulated models for the vibrating assembly are reasonably good and the electrostatic ion-multipole treatment of the interactions is correct. The results indicate also the presence of cations in several environments in these ionomers and the formation of ionic group aggregates-multiplets and clusters." @default.
