- W2141090358 abstract "Abstract Rehabilitated mine sites are suitable environments for the study of primary ecological succession. Plant and Orthoptera communities were simultaneously monitored for 4 years on 7 sites in the Limousin region (France), covering 9 years of rehabilitation. Insect and plant diversity varied in parallel when top soil had been restored. Absence of added soil did not modify the course of insect succession but had a clear effect on plant succession. For broom heaths, both insect density and diversity decreased from the second year on; although, several Tettigoniidae species settled in this habitat. In herbaceous habitats, insect density grows continually whereas diversity peaks at about the third year. In these habitats, multivariate analysis shows three Orthopteran seres which can be used as ecological markers of succession course." @default.
