- W2142324113 abstract "Subspace and minimum output energy (MOE) methods (1), (2) can be employed for blind channel estima- tion in code division multiple access (CDMA) communica- tions over frequency-selective wireless channels. It is well- known that blind methods can estimate the channel up to a scalar ambiguity. In this paper, we analyze hybrid channel estimation methods that employ a limited number of training symbols to remove the scalar ambiguity and compare them with training-based method. We derive large-system limit of the channel estimation mean square error (MSE) for hybrid and training-based methods, where a large-system is defined as the number of users K and the spreading gain N go to infinity with their ratio held constant. We show that the large- system performance of hybrid methods that employ subspace and MOE methods are equivalent. We also show by analysis and simulations that at a given performance level, number of training symbols required by training-based methods is too high compared to the hybrid methods." @default.
