The ${mathrm{Tm}}^{169}$ results at 1.5ifmmode^circelsetextdegreefi{}K give magnetic-susceptibility tensor components of ${ensuremath{chi}}_{1}=0.014$, ${ensuremath{chi}}_{2}=0.551$, and and ${ensuremath{chi}}_{3}=0.030$ emu/g ion, which show much more anisotropy than found previously for thulium gallium garnet. The measured ${mathrm{Al}}^{27}$ paramagnetic shifts at 1.5ifmmode^circelsetextdegreefi{}K agree quite well with values calculated from ${mathrm{Tm}}^{3+}$-ion dipole sums. The ${mathrm{Al}}^{27}$ paramagnetic shifts from 1.5 to 300ifmmode^circelsetextdegreefi{}K are used to calculate the approximate temperature dependence of the ${mathrm{Tm}}^{2+}$-ion susceptibility components. The room-temperature ${mathrm{Al}}^{27}$ quadrupolar coupling constants $|frac{{e}^{2}mathrm{qQ}}{h}|$ for the axially symmetric $a$ and $d$ sites are 0.892ifmmodepmelsetextpmfi{}0.005 and 6.155ifmmodepmelsetextpmfi{}0.005 MHz, respectively. The unshielded electric field gradients are calculated and compared with corresponding values for other aluminum garnets and for ${mathrm{Fe}}^{57}$ sites in several iron garnets.
