- W2146773307 abstract "Very large magnetic field-gradients (from about 2 to 10 T) are present on the fringe-fields of superconducting solenoids. These stray-field (STRAFI) gradients may be used for NMR imaging with the advantage that magnetic susceptibility distortions of the image are very much reduced. Even very short radiofrequency (RF) pulses excite only a narrow slice of the sample. Other slices may be imaged by sample movement, or a changes in the (RF) frequency, or a change in the magnetic field. The field gradients are large enough to allow imaging of samples which have very large NMR line-widths such as samples containing quadrupolar nuclei, paramagnetic solids as well as diamagnetic materials, and liquids in solids. Multinuclear imaging is possible. Imaging devices using specially designed permanent magnets for STRAFI-work, and portable systems have proved useful for the study of thin films. The range of STRAFI-applications is very large." @default.
