- W2149258047 abstract "Isolated rat hearts were perfused with a balanced salt solution containing human albumin 0.66 mm and oleic acid in concentrations ranging from 2 to 4 mm. With increasing oleic acid concentrations the incidence of arrhythmias clearly increased and with 4 mm of the acid ventricular fibrillation occurred within a short time in all cases. Amplitude of contraction, measured as a parameter for contractility, was found to decrease more rapidly with time in experiments with than in those without oleic acid. Decrease of amplitude of contraction with time was faster with the higher concentration of this fatty acid. With palmitic acid the same phenomena were found to occur at somewhat lower concentrations (1 to 3 mm). Arrhythmias also frequently occurred in hearts perfused with fluid containing 0.066 mm albumin and 0.4 to 0.5 mm oleic acid. These findings show that the FFA/albumin molar ratio and not the absolute FFA level is a determining factor in the genesis of arrhythmias caused by fatty acid." @default.
