- W2149588114 abstract "Abstract Collisions between heavy ions produce strong deformations in momentum space. It is pointed out that the extraction of a nuclear saturation curve (including compressibility) from the data therefore requires a knowledge of the energy of deformation (EOD) of nuclear matter in momentum space. It is illustrated that a calculation of EOD depends on the theoretical model of the effective interaction (V eƒƒ ) between nucleons in nuclear matter. One is therefore faced with a bootstrap situation in which a good model is needed to test one's model of nuclear matter. The model should give V eƒƒ as a function of deformation and temperature. A simplified version of Brueckner theory is used to calculate V eƒƒ at a temperature of zero and 50 MeV and at various densities. The input in these calculations are the N-N phase-shifts. The Arndt solutions are used. Saturation properties and temperature dependence of the calculated mean field is shown. The collision term in transport theory relates directly to the nucleon-nucleus absorbtive potential. This potential is calculated both with the T-matrix (i.e. free cross-sections) and with our Brueckner K-matrix. For energies less than 100 MeV a maximum deviation of some 20% is found." @default.
