- W2149836718 abstract "Abstract This paper considers the dependence of the outer sphere electron transfer on the separation distance between a charged donor and a charged acceptor. As donor we consider the trapped electron which can be produced by pulse, radiolysis in polar media below the glass temperature. In the presence of scavengers the trapped electron disappears by tunneling. The electrostatic interaction between the reactants is incorporated in the reaction-exothermicity and the reorganisation energy. This makes the Franck-Condon factors of the medium modes distance dependent. To obtain an analytic expression for the time dependence of the decay of the trapped electron the distance dependence of the Franck-Condon factor is evaluated as W = W o exp(−λ r ), where the parameter λ is a function of the reaction exothermicity, reorganisation energy, temperature and the weighted average frequency of the interacting modes. The results of this approach are discussed and comparison is made with experimental data. The observed great variety in the scavenging power of different electron acceptors can adequately be described." @default.
