• W2149979710 abstract "It is generally perceived that corporate restructuring carried out in a neoliberal context is likely to be implemented radically. However, Korea's massive corporate restructurings following the 1997 and 2008 economic crises differed from one another in terms of the speed and scope of the processes—even though neoliberal ideas were flourishing in Korea during both periods. What are the concrete differences between the two cases? Moreover, what are the underlying political-economic factors that brought about such differences? This article aims to answer these questions by comparing and analyzing the different developmental patterns at work in the two processes from a political-economic perspective. The research results show that the different patterns were greatly influenced by the government's relative policy autonomy during both periods, revealing the uniqueness of the Korean mode of corporate restructuring. Per the findings, significant policy lessons for corporate restructuring in Korea are suggested. 초록: 한국정부는1997년과 2008년의 거대한 경제위기에 직면하여 위기 극복을 위한 주요 방안의 하나로서 대규모의 기업구조조정을 추진하였다. 그러나 양 시기의 기업 구조조정은 그 속도와 범위에서 상이성을 보여주었으며, 이는 신자유주의적 세계화 시대의 기업구조조정은 전면적으로 급속하게 전개될 것이라는 일반의 통념에 부합하 지 않는다는 점에서 독특하다. 본 연구는 이러한 사실에 주목하여 상이한 패턴의 기 업구조조정을 야기한 정치경제적 요인을 양 시기에 정부가 보유한 정책자율성의 상 대적 차이에서 발견하고, 그 구체적인 정치경제적 메커니즘을 분석한다. 이후 분석결 과를 바탕으로 하여 비교적 관점에서 한국사례의 독특성을 논하고, 대규모 기업구조 조정의 가능성이 상존하고 있는 현 상황에서 기존의 기업구조조정이 지닌 한계를 보 완할 수 있는 정책적 함의를 모색하고자 한다. 주제어: 기업구조조정, 아시아금융위기, 글로벌경제위기, 신자유주의, 국제통화기금, 한국정부" @default.
