- W2150274743 abstract "OBJECTIVE: To determine if a single endometrial biopsy taken during a routine diagnostic hysteroscopy improves the success rate of IVF treatments for women who failed IVF treatment at least three times. DESIGN: After three failures of IVF treatments it is customary to perform a diagnostic hysteroscopy in order to detect intrauterine pathologies. During hysteroscopy some clinicians perform an endometrial biopsy. We prospectively recruited woman whom had at least three IVF failures and were scheduled to undergo diagnostic hysteroscopy from July 2004 to May 2006. In order to increase the statistical power we also reviewed patients' files from January 2002 until July 2004. We excluded women who had a pathologic finding during the hysteroscopy, were older then 42 years, or women who did not undergo an IVF-ET treatment the cycle after the hysteroscopy. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The study included 166 women who were referred to the Lis Hospital of Obstetrics and Gynecology for a diagnostic hysteroscopy due to repeated IVF failures. 94 women were excluded from the study due to pathologies found during the hysteroscopy, or woman who didn't commence an IVF cycle after the hysteroscopy. 36 women had a biopsy during the hysteroscopy and 36 did not and comprised the control group. RESULTS: There were no differences in the demographic and medical parameters between the study and the control group including: age, obstetric history, years and cause of infertility, hormonal treatment, E2 levels, amount of retrieved and fertilized oocytes, quality and number of embryos transferred. Our results show a higher implantation rate in the study group compared to the control group (12.5% vs. 6.8%, p=0.16).Table 1ResultsStudy groupControl groupp valueImplantation rate (%)12.56.80.1Clinical pregnany rate (%)36.119.40.1Live Birth rate (%)27.88.30.03 Open table in a new tab A higher chemical pregnancies rate of the study group, (41.7% vs. 30.6%, p=0.33). A higher clinical pregnancies rate of the study group (36.1% vs. 19.4%, p=0.11). The live birth rate was higher in the study group and was statisticly significant (27.8 vs. 8.3%, p=0.032). CONCLUSIONS: We found that endometrial biopsy during diagnostic hysteroscopy might increase the pregnancy and live birth rate in the IVF cycle preformed after the procedure. A single, large, blind prospective randomized trial should be held in order to further investigate the role of hysteroscopic endometrial biopsy." @default.
