- W2150363464 abstract "Abstract Febrile Neutropenia (FN) is a frequent adverse andpotentially lethal event in patients with haematologic malignancies.Nowadays, FN represents a heterogeneous group with varyingrisk for serious complications and death. In a retrospective studyfirst line antibiotic failure, and the hospitalization and death rateswere studied. In addition, clinical and laboratory data werecompared with outcomes, the usefulness of ModifiedMultinational Association for Supportive Care of Cancer(MASCC) was validated and positive blood and urine culturerates were calculated. Patients with haematologic malignancies, who were treated with cefepime (2 g - intravenous) twice a day, with or without teicoplanin (400 mg - intravenous) once a day, were evaluated. Of the 178 FN events, first line antibiotic failurewas observed in 36.5%, the hospitalization rate was 20.7% anddeaths occurred in 6.2%. In multivariate analyses, the risk for firstline antibiotic failure was associated with Age 1.2mg/mL(OR: 7.19; 95% CI: 1.81 - 30.71; p= 0.005). For hospitalization therisks were: diagnosis of malignancies other than non-Hodgkinlymphoma (OR: 2.42; 95% CI: 2.04 - 2.8; p= 0.011), smoking" @default.
