- W2151265465 abstract "Clemens von Piquet first used the term allergy in July 1906. It was created from the conjunction of 2 Greek words meaning “other or different” and “signifying energy or reactivity.” The term was intended to define various manifestations of altered biological reactivity. Despite this, the meaning of allergy has often varied with subsequent investigators. The type of health we all enjoy is a result of the interaction of our bodies with our environment. Initially medicine, magic, and mystery were all viewed together. They were attempts to understand the unknown. It was soon realized that the immune system gave the individual protection against foreign environmental agents. It involved genetic and environmental factors. During the last of the 19th century 2 schools of immunological doctrine were developed. The first was humoral immunity involving antibody and complement. The second was cellular immunity, which initially involved primarily phagocytes." @default.
