- W2151761844 abstract "The hydrogen sulphide produced by sulphate-reducing bacteria when wastewater and sludge become anaerobic is the cause of many problems including odour, toxicity and reduced methane yields during anaerobic digestion. Despite this, the mathematical models that quantify emission of hydrogen sulphide to the atmosphere do not usually include a mechanism for its formation. This can lead to inaccurate estimates of atmospheric emission from anaerobic sites around the treatment plant, such as the inlet works, primary tanks and sludge handling facilities. The main kinetic model used to simulate sulphate reduction and hydrogen sulphide formation is based on a dual Monod term for substrate uptake. This model could be included in the existing atmospheric emission models to describe hydrogen sulphide formation during the anaerobic oxidation of organic compounds in wastewater containing sulphate. Its inclusion in the mass balance performed by available emission models would help estimate formation of hydrogen sulphide a..." @default.
