- W2155962964 abstract "Despite many years of research, and countless implementation projects, there has been little advancement in understanding the contribution mobile learning can make to development goals. The situation is particularly acute when considering how mobile learning is justified and conceptualised by mobile operators working in the majority world. In this chapter, recent reports on mobile learning from the GSMA are reviewed to establish how it is understood and instantiated in practice. This perspective is contrasted with academic research literature from the mobile learning community. The findings suggest that overall the GSMA takes a simplistic view of mobile learning, places strong emphasis on technical innovation, market values in education and the transformative potential of mobile learning. However, it does not give enough support to investigating how mobile learning can strengthen formal education systems, while facilitating new ways of learning." @default.
