- W2155996671 abstract "This is a comparative study of fascism in the largest possible sense. It examines fascism world-wide and from its origins to the present day. Wolfgang Wippermann, Adjunct (Ausserplanmässiger) Professor of Modern History at the Humboldt University, is one of the world's leading experts on fascism. Wippermann pioneered the modern revival of the marxist concept of Bonapartism and its application to fascism. It will come as no surprise to those familiar with his work that the concept plays an important role here. The book is based on several key assumptions. First, that there is such a thing as ‘generic’ fascism, though it is still poorly understood, because of a lack of comparative studies. Second, that fascism is not temporally limited to the interwar period. It developed in France before the turn of the century, it still exists today, and has the potential to develop in the future. Third, that fascism is neither limited to the ‘core’ fascist countries, nor to just Europe: the definition is applicable around the world, and fascist movements and regimes have existed and still exist in every region." @default.
