• W2156839922 abstract "Objective: To evaluate the relationship between DHEA-S, testosterone, FSH and libido in women in the late reproductive years. Design: Prospective cohort using a population-based urban sample recruited through random digit dialing. Materials and Methods: The population consists of 184 women between the ages of 35 and 48 years with regular menses and is part of a larger study of the late reproductive years. 2 time points were examined approximately 1.5 years apart (Time a and b). At each time point FSH, testosterone, and DHEAS levels were obtained in the first 6 days of a menstrual cycle in 2 consecutive cycles. Also, at both time points libido was assessed during a structured interview. An average of the hormone levels obtained in 2 consecutive cycles was calculated for each subject at each time point. The subjects were divided into 2 groups by their answer to the libido question. The mean hormone level was calculated for each group, and the groups were compared using T tests. The total population was further divided by race and the groups again compared. Results: At time point a, 26% of the total population, 23% of the Caucasians, and 28% of the African-Americans indicated decreased libido. At point b, the percentiles with decreased libido were 32%, 33%, and 30%, respectively.
