- W2158907345 abstract "Edmond Halley was born in 1656 at Haggerston outside of London and was educated at St Paul’s School, London and Queen’s College, Oxford. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1678. The following year Halley published a catalogue of the stars of the southern sky (the result of a year observing on the island of St Helena off the coast of South-West Africa). He subsequently visited Hevelius in Danzig and Cassini in Paris, two of the best astronomical observers in Europe at the time, and on his return to London began his own programme of astronomical observation. Probably soon after his return, Halley met Isaac Newton and would become instrumental in the publication of Newton’s Principia in 1687." @default.
