Proximate analysis of the precursor was performed using thermogravimetry (TGA), and a carbon yield of approximately 40% can be obtained. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) has been done for all carbon hollow fibers. The highest permeances were obtained for the membrane submitted to an end temperature of<mml:math xmlns:mml=http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML><mml:mrow><mml:msup><mml:mrow><mml:mn>750</mml:mn></mml:mrow><mml:mo>°</mml:mo></mml:msup><mml:mtext>C</mml:mtext></mml:mrow></mml:math>and the highest ideal selectivities for an end temperature of<mml:math xmlns:mml=http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML><mml:mrow><mml:msup><mml:mrow><mml:mn>700</mml:mn></mml:mrow><mml:mo>°</mml:mo></mml:msup><mml:mtext>C</mml:mtext></mml:mrow></mml:math>. In both cases, the membranes were quenched to room temperature." @default.
