- W2161344741 abstract "The main focus of the present study is the conflict reaction of a third parties. This study has examined whether the effects of the third parties’ conflict perception could influence the response to the conflict. Furthermore, de effects of a third parties’ sense of power on conflict reaction and the possible interaction with conflict perception has also been studied. This study used the conflict reactions of Horney (1945) as classification for the possible responses of the third parties. These reactions were moving away (flight), moving towards (cooperation), and moving against (competition). A total of 48 respondents participated in a experiment in which they were confronted with a realistic conflict scenario. The results of this current study revealed that a task conflict had a positive effect on ‘moving towards’. This influence amplified when the participants’ motivation was high or when his of her insecurity was low. Furthermore, task conflict was found to be a negative predictor of ‘moving away’ and relationship conflict was negatively related to ‘moving against’. Sense of power did not moderate the relationship between type of conflict and conflict reaction. However, sense of power did influence ‘moving towards’ positively and ‘moving away’ negatively, by mediation through high motivation and low insecurity." @default.
