- W2162167724 abstract "A description of a high homogeneity sample-coil design for use in animal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) probes and high-resolution liquid nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) is presented in this article. These coils are intended for, and work best with, midsized samples, where the frequency (f)-diameter (d) product is in the range of 5–20 MHz-m. Common applications include mouse brain and body coils from 125 to 500 MHz, rat body coils up to 300 MHz, and liquid high-resolution NMR sample coils with sample diameter between 12 and 40 mm. Parallel current paths are used in these coils to reduce current concentrations, to improve current distribution and magnetic field homogeneity, and to reduce coil losses. They are denoted as Litz coils, as their flux transparency and improved current distribution are obtained from woven foil patterns with insulated crossovers. This is especially beneficial in double-resonance experiments. Test data are presented for Litz coils with fd products in the 7–20 MHz-m range, and comparisons are made to other types of coils used in similar applications. Keywords:double resonance;RF coil;NMR;animal;RF homogeneity;litz coil" @default.
