- W2163297890 abstract "This article presents the results of a telephone survey of the deans and directors of continuing education at the 72 schools of pharmacy in the United States. Data were collected on the types and frequencies of needs identification methods used in continuing education programming. The survey resulted in an 88.9 percent return rate (6472 schools responding). Fifteen needs identification methods were identified as being in current use among the schools of pharmacy. Of these, seven were used as primary methods. Only two schools of pharmacy used a primary method that did not have direct practitioner input. The idea of a ‘needs advisory council’ was explored with mixed results. Such a council would pose problems that would have to be considered very carefully before proceeding with the creation of a ‘needs identification council.’ Conclusions based upon the data are presented. Overall, continuing education personnel at colleges of pharmacy knew what needs identification was, had selected a primary method for identifying those needs, and appeared to have accepted needs identification as part of the continuing education effort." @default.
