- W2164516858 abstract "(RECEIVED FOR PUBLICATIONOCTOBER 21,1954) Themethods mostcommonlyemployed forthe estimation ofbloodglucose aredependent upon theability ofglucose toreducealkaline copper solutions. Reagents containing phosphomolybdic acidarethenfrequently usedtoformabluecomplexbycombination withthereduced copper. All these methods suffer thedisadvantage thatthefinal colour fades atsucharateastoimperil itsaccuratecomparison withastandard glucose solution similarly treated. Fading wasneither veryapparent norofmuch importance whenvisual colorimeters wereemployed withdirect comparison ofstandard and unknowncolours. Folin(1929) first recorded the existence offading anddescribed a methodto combatit.Interest wasaroused bythegeneral adoption ofthephotoelectric colorimeter, and manytechnical modifications wereintroduced to circumvent fading. Thesewereremarkable for theirvariety rather thanfortheir success in routine use. Inthepresent investigation thefactors influencingfading havebeendetermined andanewmodification oftheFolinandWu technique hasbeen evolved whichsimplifies thestandard technique atthesametimeasiteliminates fading. Although theFolin andWu (1920) methodwaschosenfor thisinvestigation theprinciples involved are applicable toother methods ofbloodglucose estimationinwhichsimilar reagents areused." @default.
