We insert tether molecules into preformed oligo(ethylene glycol)-terminated alkanethiolate monolayer matrices and covalently attach the neurotransmitter serotonin to the tethers. These monolayers selectively recognize serotonin antibodies and resist binding of nonspecific antibodies and proteins.
