- W2167225858 abstract "In this chapter, the authors advance conceptualizations of prosaic stateness in political geography by drawing on key tenets in political ecology. They synthesize characterizations of the state and state power in political ecology, and identify three major theses that anchor the field: the state is not a thing, but a resonance chamber of objects and ecologies; it enables the calculus and legibility of nature for capital; and in so doing, material practices and objects produce state subjects, who, in turn, often subvert their subjection. The authors suggest that these insights advance prosaic state theory beyond anthropocentric notions of power, place, and practice. In an era of increased securitization and geopolitical tension, both at home (intensively) and abroad (extensively), the authors conclude by suggesting that political ecology adds great analytical traction in understanding the increasingly militarized and more-than-human nature of statecraft and power." @default.
