- W2168753668 abstract "The morning after pill is an accepted birth control method among women informed of its availability. It has been available since 1985 in Germany under the trade name Tetragynon (= 4 tablets Neogynon). The pill is administered in 2 x 2 tablet form at 12 hour intervals. The 1st dose should be taken at the latest 48 hours after unprotected intercourse. Reliability is greater, the less time elapsed since intercourse before taking the 1st 2 pills. With proper use, effectiveness is greater than 99%. Side effects are minimal. Tetragynon should only be used once per menstrual cycle to prevent menstrual disorders and disruption of the natural hormonal cycle; use every 3 to 6 months is preferable. The pill is not an abortifacient, either biologically or legally. Its action is based on Tetragynon influencing the movement of the fertilized ovum and changing the endometrium such that implantation is impossible. Use of the morning after pill should be promoted among sexually active teenage girls, since it would prevent psychological and physical damage which could adversely affect the entire course of the individual's future. Although it is generally recognized that the fertilized egg is a potential human life, within the 1st 13 days it is not necessarily a personal human life. This has made this method of birth control less objectionable than abortion." @default.
