- W2169502610 abstract "The identification and validation of biomarkers for diagnosing, monitoring progression and predicting onset of AD has been a main focus of AD research in the past 10 years. The appropriate use criteria for amyloid PET PiB (positron emission tomography with Aβ ligands) include patients with persistent or progressive unexplained MCI, possible AD with unclear clinical presentation or progressive dementia and atypically early age of onset. Amyloid imaging may be useful if differential diagnosis remains unclear after FDG-PET. Our work analyze the relevance about the absence of beta-amyloid deposition corroborated with Aβ ligands, in the diagnosis related to other entities or neuropsychiatric disorders. Objective: To analyze the utility of biomarkers in the diagnostic process of patients with cognitive/behavioral symptoms, focusing on patients with final diagnoses no Alzheimer's disease (AD). Cross-sectional study of 136 patients who were performed with biomarker PET PiB and cognitive, neurological and psychiatric assessment. Patients with absence of beta-amyloid deposition -PiB negative status- (n = 64) was separated, and the presumptive diagnoses reevaluated, according to DSM IV diagnostic criteria, presenting symptoms, neurocognitive assessment, and correlations with functional neuroimaging PET with FDG. Of the 64 patients who had PiB negative status with cognitive or behavioral nonspecific presenting symptoms 40 patients (62.5%) continued with amnestic MCI diagnoses (23%), non-amnestic MCI (17%), and normal cognition (23%) without dementia or other diagnoses. Four patients (6.25%) were diagnosed as DTA, 3 patients (4.68%) were diagnosed as FTD, and 4 (6.25%) were APP. Five patients (8%) had a final diagnosis of depression, and 1 in bipolar disorder." @default.
